The Most High Over All the Earth - Psalm 83:18

INTRODUCTION

There are many nations led by many leaders, but there is only one "whose name alone is JEHOVAH," and He it is that is "the most high over all the earth." Unfortunately, the nations of this earth are all too often too nearsighted to recognize that they, nor their leaders, are the highest authority. Deuteronomy 4:39 confirms this truth by saying, "Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else." This is not merely a doctrinal truth, but one to be considered in the heart of man. Why? Because every individual, family, community, state, and nation must recognize that God is "the most high."

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) No matter who reigns or where, God is still over all (Daniel 4:17). Consider Jehoshaphat's prayer when surrounded by enemies (2 Chronicles 20:6-7). Consider these verses in Psalms (Psalm 47:2-3; Psalm 86:8-10; Psalm 103:19).
  • If God is "the most high," and He is, how should that change the condition, decisions, and morality of a nation? How does that make everyone under His authority accountable to Him?
  • If nations are accountable to God, what should and will happen when a nation decides to behave in ways contrary to the will of God? What does this suggest for the country in which you live?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to extend mercy to your native land.
  • Ask God to turn the hearts of your leaders.

HYMN

All Hail the Power of JESUS’ Name!
