The Man Who Sinned Royally

INTRODUCTION: When you choose a king  (1 Samuel 8:4-7, 19-22)

  1. Multiplied Horses  (Deuteronomy 17:16) (Pride of Life)
    1. He multiplies horses  (1 Kings 4:26-28)
    2. He brings them from Egypt  (1 Kings 10:28-29; 2 Chronicles 1:16; 9:28; Isaiah 31:1)
    3. God raises an adversary  (1 Kings 11:14-22)
    4. This led to trouble
  2. Multiplied Wives  (Deuteronomy 17:17) (Lust of the Flesh)
    1. He multiplies wives  (1 Kings 11:3)   (1 John 2:15-17)
    2. He goes to all nations  (1 Kings 11:1-2)
    3. They turned his heart away  (1 Kings 11:3-4)
    4. This led to idolatry  (1 John 5:21)
  3. Multiplied Riches  (Deuteronomy 17:17)   (Lust of the Eyes)
    1. He multiplies riches  (1 Kings 10:14-23)
    2. He declares it all vanity  (Ecclesiastes 2:1-11)
    3. This led to hopelessness  (Matthew 6:19-21)

CONCLUSION: God’s wisdom was greater than that of the world’s wisest man!  His will is always best!
