The Failure of Jehu

Scripture Passage:
1 Kings 19:15-17

Introduction:  Jehu turns out to be an instrument of God in His riddance of Ahab.  His life summary seems to be that of a Bible hero, yet in the end we will find that even Jehu had some failures.

  1. THE PROPHECY CONCERNING JEHU (1 Kings 19:15-17)
    1. The Prophecy was Given to Elijah
    2. Jehu was to be Over Israel
  2. THE CALL AND PURPOSE OF JEHU (2 Kings 9:1-10)
    1. The Anointing of Jehu (2 Kings 9:1-6)
    2. The Job of Jehu (2 Kings 9:7, 9-10)
  3. THE WORKS OF JEHU (2 Kings 9:16-2 Kings 10:28)
    1. The Killing of Joram (2 Kings 9:16-26)
    2. The Killing of Ahaziah (2 Kings 9:27-28)
    3. The Killing of Jezebel (2 Kings 9:30-37)
    4. The Killing of Ahab’s Sons (2 Kings 10:1-11)
    5. The Killing of the Brethren of Ahaziah (2 Kings 10:12-14)
    6. The Killing of the Prophets of Baal (2 Kings 10:18-28)
  4. THE FAILURE OF JEHU (2 Kings 10:29-31)
    1. The Acceptance of Some Idolatry (2 Kings 10:29)
    2. The Blessings from God (2 Kings 10:30)
    3. Jehu’s Divided Heart (2 Kings 10:31)

Conclusion:  Are you like Jehu?  Jehu was willing to be faithful in certain areas, yet he was not willing to serve the Lord with his whole heart. How will you be known in the end?
