Lessons in Wisdom
This chapter has many lists of thing that make us think. Many of these lists have practical or spiritual applications. Keep your spiritual eyes open for these applications.
The Myth of Two Masters
Many people today are attempting to live for the world while making claims of being a servant of God. The only problem is that according to scripture we cannot serve two masters. May we be like Joshua who said, "but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
Judgment Seat of Christ
Modern Christianity seems rather quick to criticize the wicked state of the world. Yet, well-meaning Christians frequently fail to acknowledge that many of the world’s woes originated from within the Church. For this reason, the Apostle Peter admonishes the people of God that true judgment must begin at our own doorstep.
The Almighty God (Daily Portion 10430)
God appeared to Abram and identified Himself as the Almighty God. He was not just one of many gods; He is the only Supreme God. The Lord changed the names of Abram and Sarai to Abraham and Sarah to show His power to change their lives and their future. He promised a son to Abraham and Sarah and demanded that Abraham and the men in his household practice circumcision as the token of the covenant. The Almighty God will do a great work in their lives.
Calling God to Action (Daily Portion 10426)
This psalm is a call to action. It calls on God to take vengeance on the enemies of God’s people. God has been silent while His enemies have lifted up their head and have joined forces against Him. The psalmist cries out for God to return evil on their heads that men may know that Jehovah is the Most High God.
Warnings Against Rejecting Wisdom
Answer a fool according to his folly, and answer not a fool according to his folly. Is this a contradiction in the Bible?
David’s Last Words and Mighty Men
A man's last words are often his most important. In this chapter you read the last words of the sweet psalmist of Israel. Also see the list of David's mighty men. Did you know that Uriah the Hittite was one?
Benefits of Justification by Faith (Daily Portion 10415)
This chapter continues to deal with the fact and experience of justification by faith. However, it also begins to describe some of the results or benefits of salvation. Now that a person is justified by faith, what does this do for him?
Authority for Truth
Authority for truth is the right to determine what the truth is.
The Death of Abner
Abner had killed Joab’s brother, Asahel, in battle. Joab cannot wait for the Lord but must exact his own vengeance.
