David Finishes Well (Daily Portion 10314)
David ended his life well. He set up Solomon to follow him on the throne of Israel. He made provision for the building of the temple. He saw the people submit to Solomon as their next king. This passage reminds us that it is how a person finishes and not how he starts that really counts.
Passing the Torch (Daily Portion 10313)
The Lord has told Moses that he will not be able to go into the Promised Land. However, we see Moses preparing the people and preparing Joshua as their leader to enter the land and conquer it. We, too, must learn to think beyond ourselves. We need to leave others with their eyes on the Lord and not afraid to follow Him.
Creation of Adam and Eve
David marveled how that man was “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). In another Psalm, he glories that man was made just “a little lower than the angels” (Psalm 8:5). Study carefully the creation of Adam and Eve. Notice God’s original plan for man. See what you can learn about man’s original design.

A Look at C. S. Lewis
The August/September, 2006, Newsletter of the Southern View Chapel surveys the doctrinal stands of C. S. Lewis (1899-1963). The popularity of both the fictional and non-fictional works of Lewis is at an unprecedented high. His "Chronicles of Narnia" were just made into a popular film and his is almost everywhere acclaimed. Perhaps it would be good to know the theological views of this man.
Skull Fashion
Today's "Knoxville News-Sentinel" has an article on how skulls have become a big fashion statement. What used to be reserved for the underground and Goth kids has become mainstream. Skulls are everywhere. The fashion designers use them because of their connection with poison, danger, pirates, and death. Although most popular with the young, they can give an edge to older fashionistas who want to look tough. Isaiah 65:4 tells us of those "Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels." The Maniac of Gadara who was delivered by Jesus Christ also had "his dwelling among the tombs" (Mark 5:3). We have a generation that is given to death. They dwell among the tombs and need to be delivered from the evil one.
Chimney Tops in the Foundations
The following is a quote from p42 of Winsome Christianity by Henry Durbanville:
What Does God Desire?
Recently, our pastor was reading Psalm 51 out loud to a group of men. He was reading it without comment and using it as an introduction to a prayer meeting. When he got to verse 6, something jumped out at me, so to speak, that I had not seen before. David said to the Lord, "Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts;" If the Lord desires truth in the inward parts of man what is He looking for?
