Conquering Stress God's Way
INTRODUCTION: Our lives have become one continuous stream of activity, communication and information input. Sometimes, two or three of these are occurring at the same time. We deal with duties, expectations, and deadlines, all conflicting with little things that we desire to do on our own. Our mind becomes a jumble. We may even lose the ability to focus on the task at hand because we are dealing with a dozen additional things in our minds as we work. Sleep comes hard and leaves filling like we were wrestling all night. We come to the end of ourselves. How did we get in this fix? What are we to do now? What is God’s way through this mess?
- HOPE THOU IN GOD (Psalm 42:11Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
See All...) - Recognize Your Condition
- Cast Down – you have lost the battle
- Disquieted – you have lost your peace
- Question Your Condition
- This is not the natural condition of the saint of God
- Why? ; there is a reason you are in such a state
- Focus Your Attention on God
- This begins by getting your attention off of yourself
- Focus on God/Christ as:
- Your hope of the future – Colossians 1:27To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
See All... Your cause for praise - Your health in your soul – Colossians 3:4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
See All... - TAKE YOUR REQUESTS TO GOD (Philippians 4:6
See All...) - Cast Your Care Upon Him – 1 Peter 5:7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
See All... “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” - Give Him Your List of Needs – “let your requests be made known unto God.”
- Bathe Your Prayer in Thanksgiving – “with thanksgiving”
- FACE THE STORM WITH FAITH (Mark 4:35-41 [35] And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
[36] And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
[37] And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
[38] And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
[39] And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
[40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
[41] And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
See All...) - Remember that He has Sent You (Mark 4:35And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
See All...) - Remember that He is With You (Mark 4:38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
See All...) - Remember that Fear is Conquered by Faith (Mark 4:40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
See All...) - RECKON YOURSELF TO BE DEAD
- This is Not Your Life (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 [14] For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
[15] And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
See All...) - The Life you Live is That of Christ (Galatians 2:20I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
See All...) - Yet Our Stubbornness Requires Us to Die Daily (1 Corinthians 15:31I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our LORD, I die daily.
See All...) - ONE THING IS NEEDFUL (Luke 10:38-42 [38] Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
[39] And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
[40] But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
[41] And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
[42] But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
See All...) - We Become Cumbered with Serving (Luke 10:40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
See All...) - We Become Displeased with Others (Luke 10:40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
See All...) - We Fail to Sit and Listen at Jesus Feet (Luke 10:39And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
See All..., 42)
CONCLUSION: Are you able to focus on the task at hand? Do you know the peace of God that passeth understanding? Are you able to read God’s word and receive His truth? Can you think about one thing at a time? Can you forget the world and fall to sleep at night? Can you take an hour or a day off without taking it all with you?
