Chapter 9 (Continued)

Judgment and Restoration (Continued)

  1. A DAY OF RESTORATION (Amos 9:11-15)
    1. The People of God Restored (Amos 9:11-12)
      1. The tabernacle of David restored (Amos 9:11)
        1. The Lord will raise up the tabernacle of David that was fallen (Acts 15:13-17).
          1. This could refer to the household of David (2 Samuel 7:14-16).
          2. This could also refer to the tabernacle he built to house the Ark of the Covenant which later became a temple under Solomon (2 Samuel 6:17).
          3. Both of these will be true when the Lord Jesus Christ of the root and offspring of David is seated on the throne in Jerusalem (Isaiah 9:6-7; Jeremiah 23:5-6; Micah 5:2; Luke 1:31-33) and the temple of God is restored with sacrifices being made (Ezekiel 40-46).
        2. The Lord will close the breaches thereof.
        3. The Lord will raise up the ruins of David.
        4. The Lord will build it as in the days of old.
      2. The land of the heathen given to the people of God (Amos 9:12)
        1. Israel will possess the remnant of Edom.
          1. Edom is a focal point of the judgment of God (Malachi 1:1-5).
          2. Edom is made a place of sacrifice where the fire is not quenched (Isaiah 34:6-10).
        2. Israel will possess the remnant of all the heathen.
        3. The heathen are said to be called by the Lord’s name.
          1. This is confirmed in Acts 15:17.
          2. This is because the Lord will reign over all on the earth, so that even the unsaved will be called by the Lord’s name.
    2. The People of God Established (Amos 9:13-15)
      1. A time of blessing (Amos 9:13; Ezekiel 36:33-36; Joel 3:18-20)
        1. The plowman shall overtake the reaper.
        2. The treader of grapes shall overtake him that soweth seed.
        3. The mountains shall drop sweet wine.
        4. The hills shall melt.
      2. A time of liberty (Amos 9:14)
        1. The Lord will bring again the captivity of Israel.
        2. Israel will build the waste cities and inhabit them.
        3. Israel shall plant vineyards and drink the wine.
        4. Israel shall make gardens and eat the fruit.
      3. A time of security (Amos 9:15)
        1. The Lord will plant them upon their land.
        2. Israel shall no more be pulled up out of their land.
        3. It is a land which the Lord has given to them.
