Wisdom Without Hypocrisy - James 3:17

Wisdom Without Hypocrisy - James 3:17

INTRODUCTION

Two wisdoms exist: worldly wisdom (1 Corinthians 3:19) and godly wisdom (James 1:5). These wisdoms oppose each other in numerous ways, not excluding their association with hypocrisy. The world insists that men have wisdom, while encouraging the use of hypocrisy, but God’s wisdom operates only when hypocrisy is avoided altogether. At first thought, this seems quite difficult. How can one be wise in his words and deeds without allowing any hypocrisy to creep in? But righteousness is never accomplished by sinful means. The only way to demonstrate true wisdom is to do so with purity and mercy void of partiality and hypocrisy.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) A friend tells you he plans to get even with a child who broke his toy. You don't like the child either and say nothing. Godly wisdom always chooses God's word over how we feel. Consider these scriptures (Ephesians 4:32; Romans 12:17a). What should be said or done to this child?
  • What should a person do when asked for his opinion about sin? Should he refuse to respond? Should he respond in such a way as to avoid offending the person asking? Should he utter all his mind?
  • What kind of wisdom are you manifesting? Does hypocrisy exist in your wisdom?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God for godly wisdom.
  • Ask God to teach you more about wisdom and hypocrisy.
