Who Is a Witness?
Who Is a Witness?
Acts 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS
A witness is one who testifies to the certainty of an event. As such, the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. By doing so, they were declaring the resurrection to be an absolute truth. The disciples physically witnessed the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ had been put to death, but was alive and well. Although no believer today physically saw the birth, life, death, burial, or resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, we can and should still testify to its truthfulness. In order to offer an adequate witness of the Lord’s saving grace, an individual must first have experienced the new birth combined with the witness of God’s indwelling Spirit (1 John 5:10).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
(For children):The apostles were excited to tell others about the Lord Jesus (Acts 4:20). They had been with Him. Even though none of us have seen the Lord, Peter said we have something we can trust - the Bible (2 Peter 1:16-21). God’s word is pure and true (Psalm 119:140, 160a). Using the Bible, we can tell others about the Lord.
(For everyone):Why would it be difficult for an unbeliever to be a good witness for the Lord Jesus Christ? How does this limit the number of witnesses available to speak for the Lord?
(For everyone):Though we have not physically seen the resurrected Christ, we can read of Him in the scriptures. How can the scripture lend us authority to be good witnesses for the Lord?
PRAYER THOUGHTS
Ask the Lord to forgive you for failing to witness for Him.
Ask the Lord to teach you how to witness.
