When Should We Pray?
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Some Bible teachers have suggested that there are specific times of day in which believers ought to go to the Lord in prayer. In Psalm 5:3My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
See All..., David vowed to present his prayers before the Lord in the morning. In the 88th psalm, the psalmist acknowledged that he prayed to the Lord day and night (Psalm 88:1O lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
See All...). Of course, many know about the pattern followed by Daniel, even in the face of persecution, when he sought the Lord three times a day (Daniel 6:10Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
See All...). From these passages, one might suggest that there are specific times of prayer, but according to 1 Thessalonians 5:17Pray without ceasing.
See All..., believers are to pray without ceasing. In other words, believers ought to always be in prayer before the Lord.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Children of God should have a time when they meet daily with the Lord. The rest of the time, we should be "continuing instant in prayer" (Romans 12:12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
See All...). That means we remain ready to pray immediately for anyone who has a need - day or night. - When is the best time for you personally to spend in prayer? What are some problems with only going to the Lord in prayer during this time?
- How can believers constantly be in prayer? Why is it important that we "pray without ceasing"? What keeps us from spending the time in prayer that we ought to spend?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you spend more time with Him in prayer.
- Ask God to help you faithfully present your prayers before Him.
