INTRODUCTION

Death is the departure of the soul and spirit from the body, but where does each part of man end up after a man dies? A man’s body may be laid to rest in a number of ways, but it eventually gives way to corruption and decay. It is this part of man that is said to “sleep” (1 Corinthians 11:30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

[14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
See All...). The Bible points out that the “spirit” does not rest. Instead, it leaves the body, returning to “God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

See All...). This is true for all men, saved or lost. Yet, the soul’s departure is quite different. As man’s decision maker, the soul is the part of man that will live for all eternity in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
