What Should We Love? - John 3:16
See All...
INTRODUCTION
When you truly love someone, you find yourself developing a love for the things that he or she loves. It should be no different concerning our relationship with the Lord. The more love we have for the Lord, the more love we display for the things dearest to Him. This means that the closer we draw to Him, the more we will love things that He loves, like judgment (Isaiah 61:8For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
See All...) and righteousness (Psalm 11:7For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
See All...), the lost (John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
See All...) and the saved (1 John 4:21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
See All...), peace and truth (Zechariah 8:19Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
See All...). We will also have a greater love for the Jewish people (Zechariah 2:8For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
See All...). Perhaps a more accurate gauge by which to judge your love for the Lord is to gauge your love for the things which He loves.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): Ephesians 5:25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
See All... says that Christ “loved the church and gave himself for it.” Do you love the church (God’s people) and love to meet with them in God’s house? God does (Matthew 18:20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
See All...). - (For everyone): What are some other things we can find in the Bible that the Lord loves? How should we feel about those things? How do you feel about those things?
- Why is it important for God’s people to love what God loves? How does our love grow as we draw closer to the Lord? Have you ever found that your love for the things of God grows colder as your love for the Lord grows more distant?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to help you love the things and people that He loves.
- Ask the Lord to help you draw closer to Him.
