Trusting in Riches
See All...
INTRODUCTION
At first glance, many might suggest that there is no way they trust in riches. They might point to a meager bank account as evidence. Yet, a person does not have to be rich in order to trust in riches. No matter the amount of riches or treasures that one might have, there is a danger in trusting in those things. Riches, however, are of little value. According to Psalm 49:6-8 [6] They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
[7] None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
[8] (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
See All..., riches are of no assistance in man’s greatest need, the redemption of the soul. Not only can riches not help, but they are uncertain (1 Timothy 6:17Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
See All...). Those who trust in them will be disappointed and will ultimately fall (Proverbs 11:28He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
See All...). Even if riches increase, man should not set his heart upon them (Psalm 62:10Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) It is hard for those that trust in riches to believe in God (Mark 10:24-25 [24] And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
[25] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
See All...). Most think they earned the money by getting a good education and then a good job. They don't realize that the Lord gave them the power to get it (Deuteronomy 8:17-18 [17] And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. [18] But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
See All...). - Are you trusting in riches? What would happen if you failed to receive a paycheck? Would you immediately begin to panic, or would you patiently trust the Lord to provide?
- How dependent have you become upon your riches, treasures, and possessions? What would happen to your walk with the Lord if these things were removed?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you cease from trusting in your riches.
- Ask God to help you fully rely upon Him for all things.
