Trouble in the Home - Proverbs 11:17, 29

Trouble in the Home - Proverbs 11:17, 29

INTRODUCTION

Even the best of homes will be acquainted with trouble. Unfortunately, few homes possess the strength to endure the difficulties of life. Rather than a further complication of the problems, divorce is seen as the solution. The Devil convinces couples that divorce will solve the problems created by sin or common life circumstances. Every home has trouble, but the home that loves the Lord seeks to work through the trouble in order to glorify the Lord. Rarely do couples determine to endure the difficulties presented in the early years of marriage in order to find the joys of growing old together. They lack the character to patiently await as the battles of youth become the beauties of old age.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Every marriage will have troubles (1 Corinthians 7:28c). There is no trouble that cannot be worked out (Ephesians 4:32). God wants a husband and wife to stay together and rejoice in old age (Proverbs 5:18b; Ecclesiastes 9:9a).
  • Are you married? If so, how long have you been married? Is your marriage stronger today than it was at the beginning? What are some blessings you would not have had had you decided to divorce rather than working through your troubles?
  • What are some troubles you presently deal with in your home? Does the Devil try to convince you that divorce is the solution?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to protect your home from divorce.
  • Ask God to give you the character to endure troubles.
