Thy Word Is Truth - John 17:17

Thy Word Is Truth - John 17:17

INTRODUCTION

It is imperative that man know the proper authority for truth. The world is full of ideas, theories, and teachings, and one must be able to separate the truth from error. When standing before the Lord Jesus Christ, Pilate asked the all-important question, "What is truth?" The Lord Jesus answered this question, in part, in John 14:6 when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." However, John 17:17 indicates that the word of God is also truth. The authority for truth must be the word of God. All teaching must be compared with it in order to validate or deny the accuracy of that teaching. No other authority will do!

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) No one likes to be lied to. Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie. He wrote the Bible (2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16a) and it is true (Psalm 119:160a). You can trust what He says. That's why the psalmist loved God's word (Psalm 119:163).
  • What is your authority? Do you accept things based upon your feelings or opinions? Do you check the things you hear or believe against the scripture?
  • What happens when your opinion or way of life contradicts the scripture? Which one do you accept as truth? If it is not the Bible, then the Bible is not your authority.

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to help you have the proper authority.
  • Ask God to give you a stronger faith in His word.
