Prayer is No Unusual Noise

“Stonewall Jackson, the great general, received a complaint one night from a subordinate officer. The officer read to the General the articles of war which demand punishment upon those who make unusual noise in the tents of soldiers during the night season. General Jackson asked the subordinate officer, ‘What sort of noise is being made by the soldiers in the night season?’ He replied, ‘It’s what they call praying.’ General Jackson said, ‘God forbid that praying should ever become an unusual noise in the Army that I command!’ I fear praying in the night season is becoming unusual among soldiers of the cross.”
