Think on These Things
See All...
INTRODUCTION
God wants man to think. This may come as a shock, but the Lord does not want man to accept information without first giving it thought. During His earthly ministry, the Lord Jesus often asked men what they thought (Matthew 17:25He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
See All...; Matthew 18:12How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
See All...; Matthew 21:28But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
See All...). He did not do so because He valued the opinion of men; but, rather to cause men to think. The problem for the Lord is not that man thinks, but the things upon which man thinks. According to Philippians 4:8
See All..., God has specific things upon which He wants man to ponder: things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtue, and praise. Believers ought to give themselves to righteous thoughts.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) We are always thinking about something, but the best person to think about is God Himself: His word (Psalm 1:2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
See All...), His works (Psalm 143:5I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
See All...), His ways (Psalm 48:9We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
See All...; Psalm 63:5-7 [5] My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: [6] When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. [7] Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
See All...). - Why would God want you to think? What dangers exist when men fail to think? What benefits could come about from a healthy thought life (see Psalm 119:59I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.
See All...)? - Upon what do you spend your time thinking? Are these things found in the list given in Philippians 4:8
See All...? If not, should you be thinking about those things?
