They Believed Not the Truth - 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12
See All...
INTRODUCTION
It is the will of God that all men "come unto the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
See All...). Because of this, all men, at some point in their lives, are confronted with the truth. At such time, each man must choose to receive or reject God’s truth. If man receives the initial truth he is given by the Lord, the Lord will no doubt give additional truth until that man has truth sufficient to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. If man rejects the initial ray of truth from the Lord, the Lord is not bound to give any additional light. Unfortunately, many fit the second description and have rejected the truth. When the Lord Jesus returns, He will "send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Read God's promise to those who want to know the truth (Jeremiah 29:13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
See All...). When men believe not (Isaiah 30:8-10 [8] Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: [9] That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: [10] Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
See All...; Jeremiah 36:21-24 [21] So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. [22] Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. [23] And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. [24] Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
See All...), God is not required to show them any more truth (Isaiah 29:10-14 [10] For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. [11] And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: [12] And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned. [13] Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: [14] Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
See All...). Are you seeking the truth? - Have you received the truth? If not, how much longer do you think God will continue to show you light? Why wouldn’t you trust the Lord and seek additional light from Him?
- Do you have loved ones who have rejected your gospel witness? Have you given up on them, expecting them to die and go to hell? Wouldn’t it be worth it to witness to them again?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to work in the hearts of your lost loved ones.
- Ask the Lord to keep your heart tender toward the truth.
