There Is No Truth in the Land - Hosea 4:1
See All...
INTRODUCTION
A nation should rather soon find themselves without food and water than to endure a famine of truth. Job understood this and declared, "I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food" (Job 23:12Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
See All...). Unfortunately, all men are not as wise as Job, for many have chosen to reject the truth. When men choose to reject the truth, God often chooses to withhold the truth. At such times, the Bible confirms that truth faileth (Isaiah 59:15Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
See All...) and is perished (Jeremiah 7:28But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
See All...). No longer are men "valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil" (Jeremiah 9:3And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
See All...). Instead, they "turn away their ears from the truth" in favour of fables (2 Timothy 4:4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) When people do not care about the Lord or the way He wants them to live (Jeremiah 5:30-31 [30] A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
[31] The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
See All...), then He sometimes gives them what they want and makes His word scarce (1 Samuel 3:1And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
See All...; Lamentations 2:9Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
See All...; Ezekiel 7:26Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.
See All...; Amos 8:11-12 [11] Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: [12] And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
See All...). - Where would you be without the truth? Why is knowledge of the truth so crucial? How can a lack of knowledge concerning the truth be more harmful than a famine of food?
- Do you live among people who have rejected the truth? Is truth becoming more and more scarce in your community? What can you do to change that?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to work in the hearts of those in your community.
- Ask the Lord to send you to spread the truth to others.
