The Trinity at Work in Prayer
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Throughout the history of the church, there have been those who have rejected the biblical teaching of the coexistence of a Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Others have accepted this teaching while rejecting the fact that these three are one and each is fully God (1 John 5:7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
See All...). Yet, prayer is an area where each member of the Godhead works together on our behalf. According to the Lord Jesus, believers ought to pray to God the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus (John 15:16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
See All...). Though prayers are directed toward the Father, the Son acts as the mediator (Hebrews 7:25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
See All...). According to Romans 8:26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
See All..., the Spirit of God makes intercession
for us in our prayers.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God's people need help in praying to God the Father. When we sin, God the Son presents us faultless (as if we never sinned) to the Father because He died for that sin (1 John 2:1-2 [1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
[2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
See All...; Jude 1:24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
See All...). God the Holy Spirit takes our words and makes them acceptable for the Father to hear. - Why is it important that God’s people pray after the manner in which the scriptures prescribe? What will happen if we are disobedient in our prayer life?
- Why do we need the Spirit to make intercession for us? Why do we need the Son to act as our mediator? What does this teach us about our frailty and the grace of God?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank the Lord for His help in your prayer life.
- Thank God for the access He has provided through His Son.
