The Sheep Shall Be Scattered - Mark 14:27
See All...
INTRODUCTION
What an unfortunate truth that believers are easily offended and scattered from the Lord! The Lord knew this specific departure would occur as it was prophesied in Zechariah 13:7Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
See All..., but how this must have grieved Him when it actually transpired! At a time when true disciples should have been loyal to their Master, instead they were scattered and left the Master to suffer alone. The very One that had fed them when they were hungry (Mark 6:35-44 [35] And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
[36] Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
[37] He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
[38] He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
[39] And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
[40] And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
[41] And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
[42] And they did all eat, and were filled.
[43] And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
[44] And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

[30] But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
[31] And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

[38] And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
[39] And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
[40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
[41] And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) We know what the Lord has done for us. Yet sometimes, we, like the disciples, fear men and don't do or say what we should (Proverbs 29:25The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
See All...). The Bible tells us whom to fear (Luke 12:4-5 [4] And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. [5] But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
See All...; Hebrews 13:6So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
See All...). Who feared God in the story of the man born blind: the parents (John 9:18-23 [18] But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. [19] And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? [20] His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: [21] But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself. [22] These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. [23] Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

[25] He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. [26] Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? [27] He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? [28] Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. [29] We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. [30] The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. [31] Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. [32] Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. [33] If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. [34] They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
See All...)? - What has the Lord done for you? Has He been faithful to you through the good times and the bad? How can you be anything other than loyal to Him?
-
What would it take to cause you to stop walking with the Lord? What troubles would keep you from serving the Lord? Would you have been scattered from the Lord (see Mark 14:29-31 [29] But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
[30] And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
[31] But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you to be loyal through good times and bad.
- Ask the Lord to show you if your loyalty is weak.
