The Responsibility of the Steward - Luke 19:13

The Responsibility of the Steward - Luke 19:13

INTRODUCTION

A steward is a man of great responsibility. He may have a greater or lesser area of oversight, but he always has something placed under his care that is of great importance to the master of the house. If he is to care for money, he is to do so faithfully and to the best of his ability. If he is to care for fields or houses, he is to do likewise. Whether the master of the house is present or absent, the steward is to do as he has been commissioned by the one who owns it all. Stewardship is a great privilege. It is an honourable thing for any man to be considered worthy of the task, but at the same time it is a position of great responsibility and one that must be done with great sobriety.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Jerusalem is important to God (Psalm 87:2-3). Nehemiah loved the city too and was sad when the Babylonians left it in ruins (Nehemiah 1:3-4). After Nehemiah rebuilt the walls, read why he placed Hananiah in charge of the gates (Nehemiah 7:1-3).
  • Are you a steward of God (1 Corinthians 4:1)? What has He presently placed under your care? Are you fulfilling your responsibilities as God’s steward?
  • What happens when you fail to do what God has given you to do? How does this hurt others? How does it hurt the work of the Lord?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to remind you that He is the Master.
  • Ask the Lord to show you the things He has placed in your care.
