The Responsibility of Salvation - 2 Corinthians 5:18
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Man is not saved by works, but through the new birth, he is "created in Christ Jesus unto" (Ephesians 2:10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
See All...), and should be "zealous of" (Titus 2:14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
See All...) good works. The Lord could easily save a man and immediately take him to heaven, but He chooses to leave man here on this earth to do a work. Though the Lord’s work on this earth is made up of many details, it certainly includes "the ministry of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
See All...). Just as a person with the knowledge of the cure for a dreaded disease would be responsible to tell others, a person who has knowledge of the cure for the coming judgment of God is responsible to tell others how they too can be reconciled.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
See All...). Salvation comes by hearing and believing the word of God (Romans 10:17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
See All...). Some will never read the Bible and we must tell them the good news (Mark 16:15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
See All...; Acts 1:8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
See All...). - How did the apostle Paul work to fulfill his calling to tell others about Christ? What resources did he use to help him in this endeavour?
- Who have you told about the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ? When is the last time you told somebody about Christ? Are you ashamed of the gospel of Christ (Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
See All...)?
