The Most High Regardeth
The Most High Regardeth
Ecclesiastes 5:8 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.
INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS
The world is increasingly becoming more filled with violence. At times, it may seem like judgment and justice are silent while the wicked continue to thrive. Throughout the years, this has caused many to question the Lord’s existence or, in the least, His presence and love. The seeming absence of God during these violent times is nothing more than proof He is longsuffering with mankind. King Solomon suggested the same when he said, “If thou seest . . . violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.” It was likewise Solomon who said, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). God’s longsuffering does not indicate indifference or apathy.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
(For children):The Lord is conscious of all that is going on (Psalm 11:4; Jeremiah 17:10; Jeremiah 23:24). He knew He was going to destroy the earth during Noah’s day, yet He delayed for 120 years while Noah preached to the people (Genesis 6:3; 1 Peter 3:20; 2 Peter 2:5).
(For everyone):Why is it so important for the saints of God to know that God is paying attention to all the wrong that is going on in the world? How does this bring comfort to those that are saved?
(For everyone):What does the Bible say happens when God holds back on immediate judgment (Ecclesiastes 8:11)? Why would God continue to refrain from judgment if people tend to respond with a rebellious attitude?
PRAYER THOUGHTS
Thank God for regarding the evil that takes place in the world.
Thank the Lord for being longsuffering.
