The Liberal Soul
See All...
INTRODUCTION
One of the most misused words in modern language is the word liberal . We often use the word to refer to those who have weaker morals or those who may have a particular political agenda. Most often the word is used in a negative connotation. The Bible paints a much different picture. A liberal is a person who willingly and graciously helps others. When others are in need he gives above and beyond to meet that need. According to our passage, "the liberal soul shall be made fat." This means that the person who helps others will often receive blessings in return. This truth is confirmed in 2 Corinthians 9:6But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
See All... where the Bible says, "He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The Lord will not forget our willingness to help others. Read Proverbs 19:17He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
See All...; Proverbs 22:9He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
See All...; Proverbs 28:27He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
See All... and Psalm 41:1Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
See All.... - Are you liberal in your giving toward the needs of others? Has the Lord richly blessed you because of your willing heart to help others?
- Do you find joy in helping those in need? Do you do it merely to receive a reward or because you love the Lord and want to obey His word?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to give you a liberality in your giving.
- Ask God to give you a heart of concern for those in need.
