The Liberal Soul Shall Be Made Fat - Proverbs 11:25
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The book of Proverbs teaches a great deal of truth by using comparison and contrast. In Proverbs 11:25The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
See All..., a liberal soul is likened to watering, and the outcome of being made fat is likened to being watered. In other words, a person who is liberal will reap the benefits of his own liberality. This truth is also set forth in Proverbs 3:9-10 [9] Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
[10] So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
See All... where the Bible says, "Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine." When a man, from a sincere heart, is liberal in his care for the Lord and the Lord’s people, his liberality will be returned unto him by the Lord.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Over and over, God promises to bless His people that give to Him and to those in need (Proverbs 19:17He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
See All...; Proverbs 22:9He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
See All...; Proverbs 28:27He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
See All...; Hebrews 6:10For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
See All...). God even invites us to test the truth of what He says (Malachi 3:10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
See All...). He cannot lie (Titus 1:2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
See All...). - The rewards of liberality do not make sense to the world. How could giving to the Lord actually yield an increase to the giver? How has this truth been exemplified in your life?
- Liberality often requires personal sacrifice. In what ways have you personally sacrificed to be liberal in your giving to the Lord and His work?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to show you the benefits of liberality.
- Ask God to give you a desire to be liberal in your giving.
