The Law of Kindness - Proverbs 31:26
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Proverbs 31 reveals the attributes of a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31:10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
See All...). Though a virtuous woman possesses many wonderful traits, perhaps her greatest strength lies in the manner in which she speaks—with wisdom. This God-given wisdom enables her to refrain her lips from foolishness, instead choosing to edify others with her speech. Many people offer others advice and even wisdom, but this woman is said to speak with the “law of kindness” in her tongue. Not only does she speak wisely, but she presents this wisdom with the right spirit--the spirit of kindness. Apparently, when she speaks wisely, her words encourage others to listen and heed what she says. Her hearers want to receive her words and put them into practice. Why? Because she presents her words with this “law of kindness” much like those today who are “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): Sing the songs "Oh, Be Careful Little Mouth What You Say" and "Keep Thy Tongue from Evil." God wants the words we speak to others to be kind and helpful and never intentionally hurtful.
- (For everyone): Do you offer words of wisdom to those who lend you their ears? Do they generally receive what you have to say when you speak to them? If not, is it possible that you do not speak with the law of kindness?
- How do you speak to others? Do you tell them the truth? Do you speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
See All...)? Would your words be better received if you changed your presentation?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to put the law of kindness in your tongue.
- Ask Him to help you speak the truth in love.
