The Last Laugh

The Last Laugh - Psalm 2:4

INTRODUCTION

Much of this life is filled with sorrows and tears, but one day all that will change. Although this world laughs and mocks the Lord and His people today, the tide will turn in the future. Several passages attest to this fact by stating that God will laugh at the wicked (Psalm 2:4; Psalm 37:13; Psalm 59:8). This may seem harsh, but the Lord will never laugh at the difficulties of any to whom He has not first offered refuge and deliverance. Wisdom warns her rejecters that she will laugh at their calamity and mock when their fear cometh (Proverbs 1:26). In addition to this, the Bible seems to promise a future time of laughter to the people of God (Luke 6:21).

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Would you be happy if you found a great treasure? Read Psalm 119:162. We can rejoice now in God's promises (Revelation 21:4) even if others say He doesn't exist or isn't coming back (2 Peter 3:3-4).
  • Our laughter here is often interrupted by sorrows. In heaven, there will be no sorrows to interrupt our laughter. What does this mean about the abundance of our future joy?
  • What is the source of God’s laughter in heaven? What will be the source of our laughter and joy in heaven? What should be the source of these things now?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Thank God that He will one day wipe away all tears.
  • Thank the Lord that your sorrows will be replaced with laughter.
