The Last Days Demand Sobriety - 1 Peter 4:7
See All...
INTRODUCTION
As time fades, the need for sobriety escalates. Temptations increase on every hand. Even if sin has no ability to lure the believer, busyness and hobbies tug at his heart to steal his time and strength. The Devil labours to keep the believer from working while it is day (John 9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
See All...) knowing that a sober believer gets much more accomplished for the Lord. While men are sleeping (Matthew 13:25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
See All...), the enemy has free reign to disrupt and destroy the lives of others. The apostle Paul saw this dilemma and warned "that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed" (Romans 13:11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The last days are wicked and dangerous (2 Timothy 3:1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
See All...). What does God want us to do? Realize time is short (1 Corinthians 7:29But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
See All...a) and continue working for Him (2 Timothy 3:13-14 [13] But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. [14] But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
See All...a; Ephesians 5:15-16 [15] See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, [16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
See All...). - What are some things the Devil has done in the last days to keep men asleep or preoccupied? How many of these things would be considered vain or empty?
- What is the focus of your home? Does this focus confirm or deny the presence of sobriety? What is the focus of your church? Does this focus suggest a people who know that time is short?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to remind you that time is short.
- Ask God to help you refuse to sleep or be sidetracked.
