The Identity of the Enemy
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The fact that the Christian life is a "fight of faith" (1 Timothy 6:12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
See All...) suggests that the believer’s warfare is not fleshly like the world’s wars. In like manner, the enemy in this battle cannot be seen with the eyes of flesh. It is not a country on the other side of the world. In fact, it is no person or people group on this earth. Believers do not wrestle "against flesh and blood." Ultimately, the saints’ enemy is the Devil, but this includes principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. This means that the saints should never look to flesh and blood to find the source of their frustrations. The fight is one of faith, and the enemy is the Devil.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The Bible is very clear that the Devil is our enemy (Luke 22:31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
See All...; 1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
See All...). It is also very clear that through prayer and doing what God says, we have the power to do right (James 4:7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
See All...). - Why is this such an important biblical truth? How can this keep us from taking our frustrations in the midst of tribulation out upon the people that we love?
- Who should be the object of our hate when things go wrong? Who is ultimately the enemy that seeks to destroy us and our testimonies?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to help you realize that your enemy is the Devil.
- Ask the Lord to use this teaching to make you a better Christian.
