The God of All Comfort - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The Bible clearly states that all comfort comes either directly or indirectly from the Lord. The Bible says that He is “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
See All...). Any true and lasting comfort man receives originates with and through the Lord (James 1:17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
See All...), and the comfort given by God can comfort each of us in any and all tribulation (2 Corinthians 1:4Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
See All...). Unfortunately, man seems to think that every problem he faces requires a different area of study with various solutions. Yet, the Bible contradicts this line of thinking by stating that every tribulation has only one source of comfort. It is important to note that the comfort received by one person can be passed on to help others regardless of the trouble faced. That is the power of God’s comfort!
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): God gave each of us a mother for many reasons, but one reason involves the comfort each of us so desperately needs. Mom may not always be near, but God is always with us and wants to comfort us (Isaiah 66:13As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
See All...a). - (For everyone): What troubles are you presently facing? At first thought, what sources would you think you need in order to receive comfort? Why is it crucial that you realize your comfort comes from God?
- How have you taken God’s comfort to others? What did you learn about God’s comfort during a time of loss? How did you use that comfort to help someone else who had lost a loved one?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for the comfort He offers in every trouble.
- Ask God to help you pass His comfort to others.
