The Fruit of Love
See All...
INTRODUCTION
This is perhaps one of the most well-known verses in all the Bible, yet it contains a concept that is often misunderstood. Love is a word that is used very lightly in modern conversation, but real, biblical love sacrifices. "God so loved the world, that he gave." Love costs the person who chooses to love. This truth is demonstrated in other verses that speak of Christ’s love for us (Galatians 2:20I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
See All...; Ephesians 5:25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
See All...). When a person loves another person, he sacrifices in order to demonstrate that love. God demonstrated His love for the world by giving His only begotten Son to die for the sins of the world. In like manner, any person who truly loves the Lord will gladly sacrifice in order to manifest that love.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) While David was hiding from Saul in a cave, he longed for a drink of water from a well in Bethlehem. The Philistines had control of the well. Three mighty men, because of their love for David, risked their lives to get David a drink.
- What sacrifices has the Lord made to demonstrate His love for you in salvation? What has the Lord done to manifest His love for you after salvation?
- What do you give to those you love? What have you given for the Lord in order to demonstrate that you truly love Him? What would you be willing to give to Him?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you show the fruit of biblical love.
- Thank God for His sacrifice for you in salvation and afterwards.
