The Eye Cannot Say - 1 Corinthians 12:12-25

The Eye Cannot Say - 1 Corinthians 12:12-25

INTRODUCTION

At times, one believer may get puffed up about his own worth and think himself more important than another believer. He may think another believer not as skilled in the scripture and not as efficient in living the Christian life. If he is not careful, he will look down upon the other brother with arrogance. He might, as the eye, "say unto the hand, I have no need of thee" (1 Corinthians 12:21). Every member of the body, even those "which seem to be more feeble, are necessary" (1 Corinthians 12:22). Believers ought to be thankful for other believers. They ought to thank the Lord for all the benefits each member brings to the body.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Philippians 2:3 says we ought to think more of others than ourselves. We are to increase in love and charity (1 Thessalonians 3:12). We have nothing to glory in (1 Corinthians 4:7) except in the cross and the Lord (Galatians 6:14; 1 Corinthians 1:31).
  • Is there some brother in Christ that you think to be of little or no importance? Can you actually think of things that he has done to be a blessing to you or to others? Knowing this, can you take the time to thank God for that believer?
  • Do you think yourself superior to other believers? Is it possible that you are much weaker than you think?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Thank God for the believers in your local body.
  • Ask God to help you esteem others better than yourself.
