The Depths of Sin (Daily Portion 10225)

Content Author:

Scripture Passage:
Romans 1:22-32

This passage describes the depths to which sin will take man if he refuses to repent and return to the Lord. We see here the progressive nature of man’s rebellion and the steps God takes in turning from man. This passage stands as a warning to all of us about the danger of straying away from God.

What Does It Say?

  1. These men who turned from God changed the glory of the _______________ God into an image made like to __________ man.
  2. For even the women did change the natural use into that which is against __________.
  3. Since they did not like to retain God in their ____________, God gave them over to a reprobate mind.
  4. One of the things men became by rejecting God was to be ______________ of evil things.
  5. They knew the __________ of God; yet, not only did they do the same, they had pleasure in them that did it.

What Does It Mean?

  1. One of the actions of those who rejected God was to change the truth of God into a lie (verse 25). What is the truth of God? How can it be changed into a lie?
  2. As man further rebels against God, God further rejects man. Three verses in this passage (verses 24, 26, 28) refer to God either giving them up or over to something. Study these phrases. How is the judgment of God getting progressively worse in each of these statements? What part of man is mostly influenced by each of these acts of God? What could man do in order to avoid this rejection by God?
  3. Verse 31 says that those who reject God will end up being implacable. Look this word up. What does it mean? Give examples of people who are implacable. What is the cure for being implacable?

What Does It Mean to Me?

  1. Verse 22 states, “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” What do you think this verse means? Give some examples. How can we keep from falling into this trap?
  2. Those who rejected God “served the creature more than the Creator” (verse 25). How does this apply to idolatry? How do people fall into this sin without knowing it? How can we avoid this sin?
