The Attire of an Harlot
See All...
INTRODUCTION
It is of the utmost importance that God’s people cover themselves so that the shame of their nakedness does not appear before others. Yet, it is also important that their choice of covering be acceptable in the sight of the Lord. Some have wrongfully assumed that the Lord does not give any thought to the attire of His people. This assumption is based upon 1 Samuel 16:7But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
See All... where the Bible says, ". . . for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." Man looks on the outward appearance, but God can see both the outward and the inward. In Proverbs 7:10And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
See All..., the Holy Spirit suggests that the woman’s clothing is the attire of an harlot. Apparently, He saw the outside.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God wants us to properly cover our bodies. Missionaries tell stories of tribes who wear no clothing, but after they are saved, they cover up. Jesus met a man who "ware no clothes." After he met the Lord, he put on clothes (Luke 8:27And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
See All..., 35). People who love God ought to know how to dress correctly. - Would your clothing suggest that you are godly or ungodly? Would you be pleased if the Lord came and found you wearing what you are wearing right now?
- Do you desire to please the Lord in your choice of clothing? Would you be willing to prayerfully go through your closets and get rid of anything that would displease the Lord?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to show you what constitutes godly clothing.
- Ask the Lord to soften your heart to His will for your life.
