Suffer Children to Come unto Me
Suffer Children to Come unto Me
Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS
The Lord Jesus is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, and the Creator of the universe. Yet, during His earthly ministry, the Lord made it known that He cared for the “little ones” (Matthew 18:6, 10, 14). Perhaps the disciples thought the Master would be too busy or have more important things to do than to take time for the children. The Lord rebuked His disciples for such erroneous thinking. After all, the Lord loved children and wanted them to come to Him. It grieved Him to think that His disciples would forbid any child from coming to Him. Even now, the Lord wants little children to come to Him. No disciple should ever forbid children to come to the Lord. Even with all of life’s distractions, the Bible admonishes young people to remember their Creator in the days of their youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
(For children):The Lord says, “he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). The Lord died for everyone and wants them to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). In Romans 10:13, “whosoever” means you! You may, can, and should be saved when you are young (Proverbs 8:17; Jeremiah 29:13).
(For everyone):Have you trusted the Lord as Saviour? Have you talked to someone about trusting the Lord for salvation only to have that person turn you away? Why were you turned away?
(For everyone):Why is it important that children not be turned away when they are seeking the Lord? What should we do to help them better understand salvation without turning them away?
PRAYER THOUGHTS
Thank the Lord for caring for the little children.
Ask God to work in the hearts of the young ones in your family.
