Sin Cares Not for Your Age

Sin Cares Not for Your Age - Genesis 8:21

INTRODUCTION

From youth, man is bent toward sin. As he ages, the source of his temptations may change, but the fact that he is tempted does not. Paul instructed young Timothy to "flee . . . youthful lusts" (2 Timothy 2:22), yet Solomon’s heart was turned after other gods when he "was old" (1 Kings 11:4). A man’s youthful strengths may become his downfall in latter years. Many believers have wasted precious years of youth by succumbing to the youthful lusts of which Paul warned Timothy, while others have fought the good fight in their youth, only to compromise later in life. There is no time or age for the believer to be at ease concerning sin.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Samuel was willing to learn of, and serve God at an early age (1 Samuel 2:26). From childhood to old age, he stayed true to the Lord (1 Samuel 12:1-4). Learn God's word now (Psalm 119:11).
  • What are some temptations young people may face? What are some temptations that the aged may face? Are the temptations different? How and why?
  • What are some biblical examples of people who gave in to youthful lusts? What are some biblical examples of people who failed the Lord when they were old? How can we guard against both?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to keep you from sin in each stage of life.
  • Ask the Lord to give you an understanding of the danger of sin.
