Sin Cares Not for Your Age - Genesis 8:21
See All...
INTRODUCTION
From youth, man is gripped by sin’s attraction. As he ages, the source of temptation may vary, but the fact that he is tempted remains constant. Paul instructed young Timothy to “flee . . . youthful lusts” (2 Timothy 2:22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
See All...), yet Solomon’s heart was turned after other gods when he “was old” (1 Kings 11:4For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
See All...). Many believers have wasted the precious years of youth by succumbing to the youthful lusts of which Paul warned Timothy. Others have fought the good fight in their youth, only to regretfully compromise in their waning years. There is no time or age for the believer to be at ease concerning sin. Sin can be pleasurable but is always deceptive with uncertain outcomes for those who indulge.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): Samuel was willing to learn of and serve God at an early age (1 Samuel 2:26And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.
See All...). From childhood to old age, he stayed true to the Lord (1 Samuel 12:1-4 [1] And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. [2] And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day. [3] Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. [4] And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.
See All...). Learn God’s word now (Psalm 119:11Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
See All...). - (For everyone): What are some of the temptations young people may face? What are some temptations the aged may face? Are the temptations different? How and why?
- What are some biblical examples of people who gave in to youthful lusts? What are some biblical examples of people who failed the Lord when they were old? How can we guard against both?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to keep you from sin in each stage of life.
- Ask the Lord to give you an understanding of the danger of sin.
