Serve the Lord in Truth - 1 Samuel 12:23-24
See All...
INTRODUCTION
God wants man to serve Him in truth. This was the message of Joshua when he admonished the people to "fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth" (Joshua 24:14Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

It was also the message of the apostle Paul when he declared, "Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth" (1 Corinthians 5:8Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

It is perhaps this very issue that will determine "of what sort" man’s work is at the judgment seat of Christ (1 Corinthians 3:13Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God's ways are righteous (Psalm 145:17The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
See All...). He wants us to follow His ways (Deuteronomy 10:12-13 [12] And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, [13] To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
See All...). Which men served the Lord in truth (Genesis 39:9There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
See All...; 1 Samuel 8:1-3 [1] And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. [2] Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba. [3] And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
See All...; Daniel 1:8But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
See All...; Daniel 3:17-18 [17] If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. [18] But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
See All...; Daniel 6:10Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
See All...; Job 2:3And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
See All...)? Psalm 26:1-3 [1] Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide. [2] Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. [3] For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.
See All... should be our prayer. - Read John 4:23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
See All.... In what two things does the Lord say the Father is to be worshipped? How does this relate to serving the Lord in truth? - Are you serving the Lord? If so, are you serving Him in sincerity and in truth? How will this pay off at the judgment seat of Christ?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to show you your motive in serving Him.
- Thank God for the opportunity to do something for Him.
