The Father of Lies

Scripture Passage:
John 8:44

Introduction:  The fourth chapter of 1 Timothy associates the latter days with a time of lies.  In our day we have reduced lies to bad lies and white lies.  We justify reasons for not telling the truth and it is so much a part of us that our conscience doesn’t even bother us any more.  God, however, has not allowed the day in which we live to reduce His hatred for lies.  We may allow it to go on and even participate in the sinful practice, but rest assured that God is going to put an end to it real soon.

  1. THE ORIGIN OF LIES
    1. God and Lies (Numbers 23:19; 1 Samuel 15:29; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18)
    2. Satan and Lies (John 8:44; Genesis 3:1-4; 2 Thessalonians 2:9)
  2. THE WICKEDNESS OF LIES
    1. God’s Hatred of Lies
      1. God hates lying lips (Proverbs 6:16-19)
      2. Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord (Proverbs 12:22)
    2. The Righteous’ Hatred of Lies
      1. The righteous hate lies (Psalm 31:6; Psalm 119:163; Proverbs 13:5)
      2. The righteous have no respect for liars (Psalm 40:4)
      3. The righteous don’t keep company with liars (Psalm 101:7; Psalm 119:29)
    3. The Expectation of the Righteous (Isaiah 63:8; Ephesians 4:25)
    4. The Character of Liars
      1. The wicked (Psalm 58:3)
      2. A false witness (Proverbs 14:5)
      3. Grouped with whoremongers (1 Timothy 1:8-10)
    5. The Harm of Lies
      1. The lying tongue is likened to a sharp razor (Psalm 52:2-3)
      2. A lying tongue hates those that are afflicted by it (Proverbs 26:28)
      3. Lies make the heart of the righteous sad (Ezekiel 13:22)
      4. Lies make the liar weary (Ezekiel 24:12)
    6. The Receiving End of Lies (Acts 5:3-4)
  3. THE END OF LIES
    1. Lying Lips to be Silenced (Psalm 31:18)
    2. The Mouth that Speaks Lies Shall be Stopped (Psalm 63:11)
    3. A Lying Tongue is but For a Moment (Proverbs 12:19)
    4. He That Speaks Lies Shall not Escape (Proverbs 19:5)
    5. He That Speaks Lies Shall Perish (Proverbs 19:9)
    6. All Liars Shall Have Their Part in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8)
    7. Nothing that Makes a Lie Will Enter the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:9-10, 27; Revelation 22:15)

Conclusion:  Are you righteous with your lips or are you following wickedness after the father of lies?  Realize that the recipient of your lies is not just men, but that lie travels up to God’s ears and He abhors it.  Come clean.  Be honest in your dealings.  Lie not one to another.
