The Doctrine of Christ

Scripture Passage:
2 John 1:9
Attached audio files:

Introduction: The phrase, doctrine of Christ, is found three times in the Bible. Two times in 2 John 1:9 and once in Hebrews 6:1. It refers to the Bible teaching concerning the person and work of Jesus Christ. We must know who Christ is and believe in that Christ.

  1. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST
    1. Necessary for Salvation (2 John 1:9a)
    2. Pathway to the Father (2 John 1:9b)
    3. Cause for the Breaking of Fellowship (2 John 1:10-11)
    4. Foundation for All Other Doctrine (Hebrews 6:1)
  2. THE PERVERSION OF THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST
    1. A Perversion of the Gospel of Christ (Galatians 1:6-9)
    2. The Preaching of Another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:3-4); Kris Kringle literally means the Christ-child . This makes Santa into another Jesus.
  3. THE NECESSITY OF THE HUMANITY OF CHRIST
    1. Those Who Deny He Came in the Flesh (2 John 1:7)
    2. The Importance of Christ Coming in the Flesh (John 1:14; Hebrews 2:17-18; Hebrews 4:15-16)
  4. THE NECESSITY OF THE DEITY OF CHRIST
    1. Those Who Deny His Deity (1 John 5:1, 5, 10)
    2. The Importance of Christ Being God (John 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 1:19; Colossians 2:8-10)

Conclusion: This world seeks to give us another Jesus—one who is either not quite human or is not quite God. However, all our hope of eternity and strength for service in this life is based on the Christ of the Bible. Trust in Him as your Saviour. Live in His faith for your strength. Thank the Lord for His unspeakable gift!
