Searching the Scriptures Daily

Searching the Scriptures Daily - Acts 17:11

INTRODUCTION

Historically, believers did not have the option of searching the scriptures every day. Often, local bodies of believers might have one copy of the scriptures or a portion of the scriptures that could only be read when the believers came together to worship the Lord. As time progressed, more and more copies of the scriptures began to be in circulation. The Bereans were declared to be noble because they searched the scriptures on a daily basis. Perhaps they each had copies, or perhaps they met at a place of worship and studied together, but the truth remains that they were faithful to delve into the word. Now, as the Bible is readily available, believers ought to be more faithful than ever before.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) We eat several times a day so that we can grow and be strong and healthy. God wants us to feed (read and study) on His word so we can grow (learn to fear God and do what He says) in our Christian life (1 Peter 2:2). This too should be daily (Job 23:12b).
  • Would you like to be labeled as noble? Do you search the scriptures on a daily basis? Do you only spend time in the scriptures when you attend your local worship services?
  • Why is it important that believers spend time in the word of God each day? What can happen if a believer fails to spend time in the scriptures?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to give you something special out of His word each day.
  • Ask the Lord to give you a love for His word.
