Receive to Give

Receive to Give - Exodus 24:12

INTRODUCTION

Much can be heard these days about each person doing what is right in his own eyes. Parents raise their children in such a way as to allow each child to decide what he or she believes to be true. Yet, the very foundation of biblical faith is that believers should give that which they have received. The Lord called Moses to the mount to receive the ten commandments with the end purpose that Moses would teach the people what he had received. This theme was quite common in the history of the nation of Israel (Deuteronomy 4:9-10). God gave His truth to His people in hopes that they would give the truth to others. This pattern was also implemented in the New Testament (2 Timothy 2:2).

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Read 1 Corinthians 4:17. Paul had taught Timothy. Timothy was teachable and faithful. Paul was able to send him to the church at Corinth so Timothy could teach them what he had learned from Paul.
  • We know that it is important that we be teachable. Why is it just as important that we receive the truth with the mindset of passing it on to others?
  • Are you thankful that you know the way of salvation through Jesus Christ? How beneficial is this knowledge if you refuse to give it to others?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God for opportunities to teach what you have received.
  • Ask God to help you see the importance of receiving and giving.
