Preserved Blameless

Preserved Blameless

1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS

As a result of Christ’s sacrifice upon the cross, every child of God should recognize that he is blameless in Christ at this very moment. Yet, the Bible warns of one’s condition when the Lord Jesus Christ returns for His own. Thankfully, the scriptures clearly address this event too. According to 1 Corinthians 1:8, the Lord Jesus Christ “shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The same truth is expressed in 1 Thessalonians 3:13 when the Bible says that the Lord desires to stablish the believers’ “hearts unblameable in holiness before God . . . at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” How is this accomplished? 1 Thessalonians 5:23 offers the answer when it mentions being “preserved blameless.” Fortunately, this preservation has nothing to do with man’s efforts but only the work of Christ. Christ preserves the Christian positionally blameless though man remains a sinner in a practical and real sense.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

(For children):Psalm 37:28 says the saints of God are preserved forever. The Lord is preserving us right now (2 Timothy 4:18). He will present us faultless (Jude 1:24) because of what He did for us (Isaiah 53:5-6; 1 John 3:5).

(For everyone):Why is it so important that you be considered blameless in the sight of God? Why is it necessary that the Lord work to preserve you in that condition?

(For everyone):What part of the believers in Thessalonica did Paul pray would be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23)? What does this mean for you?

PRAYER THOUGHTS

Thank God for giving you the righteousness of Christ.

Thank the Lord for His ability to preserve you blameless.
