Praying in Jesus’ Name
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Many believers have made it a practice to end their prayers with the phrase "in Jesus’ name." They do so because of the Saviour’s command to pray in His name. However, the command is much deeper than a formula added at the end of a prayer. When one person performs an action in the name of another, that person does so at the request of and under the authority of another person. By coming to the Father in the name of the Son, believers are approaching the Father under the Son’s authority and at the Son’s request. It is no wonder that believers can approach the throne with boldness (Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
See All...). Boldness is available because the believer comes at the request of the Son.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) When you end a prayer by saying, "In Jesus' name, Amen!" you are not telling God you are finished praying now. You are saying this is why you come to Him in prayer. Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
See All...). But Jesus died for our sins and that is the only way the Father accepts our prayers (Ephesians 2:13But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
See All..., 18). - Why is it so important to pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ? How does this provide access to the Father? Why does this make it more important to pray according to God’s will?
- Is it possible to say the words "in Jesus’ name" without praying in Jesus’ name? How can one insure that he is praying in the name of Jesus?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God that you can come to Him in the name of His Son.
- Ask God to teach you what it is to pray in the name of Jesus.
