Praying for an Open Door

Praying for an Open Door - Colossians 4:2-3

INTRODUCTION

Windows of opportunities exist in the lives of the unsaved when they are most receptive to the gospel of Christ. The Devil works hard to keep them in darkness and will distract them by all means necessary (i.e., the death of a loved one, a crying child, a ringing phone, busyness, etc.). The salvation of a soul is a spiritual battle that can only be won by the intervention of the Lord. Not only is there a window of time that the lost are most receptive, but this also suggests a window of opportunity for the saved to speak for Christ. This is the very reason the apostle Paul stressed the importance of the saints of God beseeching the Lord to open a door of utterance (Ephesians 6:19).

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) When Philip heard the eunuch reading from Isaiah, he asked him if he understood what he was reading. The eunuch admitted he needed help. A simple question became Philip's "open door" to tell the eunuch about the Lord (Acts 8:30-38).
  • What did the Devil do to try to distract you from your need to be saved? What has he done to keep your loved ones from considering their need? Why is it so important to pray for an open door?
  • Paul’s prayer was not only for the open door of the hearer of the gospel, but also for the open door of the one giving the gospel. When is the last time you prayed for an open door?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to open a door of utterance for you.
  • Ask God to open doors for others to speak to your loved ones.
