No Work, No Food
See All...
INTRODUCTION
It is God’s will for a man to work and support his family. God is so adamant about this that He says, "if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel" (1 Timothy 5:8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
See All...). Though it may be difficult to accept, it is never God’s will to financially assist someone who will not work. There may be times when people cannot work and may be legitimate in their need for help; but we are disobedient to the Lord when we help those who are in need because of their own laziness. We have already learned that food is a necessity; but if a man will not work, he does not deserve to have his needs met.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Learn to be a good worker like the ant (Proverbs 6:6-8 [6] Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
[7] Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
[8] Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
See All...). A good worker will have plenty to eat (Proverbs 28:19He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
See All...a). - Laziness is rebellion against God. Even before the fall of man, God had a job for man to do. Why should we not help those who will not help themselves by working?
- Are you currently helping someone who refuses to work? Do you realize that you are in rebellion against the Lord just as much as the person who refuses to work? Will you repent and do right?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to give you wisdom when to refuse helping others.
- Ask the Lord to help you obey His word.
