Mislabeled Liberals - Isaiah 32:5-8
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The first part of Isaiah 32 speaks of a time when the Lord will right the wrongs that exist in this earth. He will reign in righteousness (Isaiah 32:1Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
See All...), and mankind will no longer be blinded by sin (Isaiah 32:3-4 [3] And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.
[4] The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
See All...). Though many wrongs will be made right, the Lord specifically mentions that the vile will no longer be called liberal (Isaiah 32:5The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.
See All...). How did the Lord know in Isaiah’s day that the label liberal would be given to the vile? Perhaps it was already happening, or perhaps the Lord was merely demonstrating His infinite knowledge. Liberals are not Bible corrupters, nor are they politicians who have a nonconservative lean. A liberal is a person who is generous in his giving.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Read what the Lord Jesus said about giving (Acts 20:35I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
See All...). Paul was taking a contribution to needy saints at Jerusalem (Romans 15:25-26 [25] But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. [26] For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
See All...). Giving freely is called liberality (1 Corinthians 16:1-4 [1] Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. [2] Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. [3] And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. [4] And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.
See All...). - Would you want to be labeled as liberal? How has the misuse of the word affected you? Do you see the label liberal as one of praise or as one of reproach?
- Would you be considered a liberal in the scriptural sense? Why should God’s people be the most liberal people in the world? In what ways should we be liberal?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you learn to be liberal.
- Thank God for the promise of righting the wrongs of this world.
