Meditating in God’s Word - Psalm 119:15
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Psalm 119 is filled with statements promoting the necessity of the word of God. Seven times in this psalm we find a statement declaring the writer’s desire to meditate upon the words of God. Three of these times he states emphatically that he will meditate in God’s statutes or His precepts (Psalm 119:15I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
See All..., 48, 78). Not only was meditating upon God’s words something that the psalmist desired to do in the future, but he had formed this habit long ago (Psalm 119:23Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.
See All..., 99). The writer of this psalm, like other successful believers in the past, made it common practice to meditate in the words of God both day and night (Psalm 119:97O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
See All...; Psalm 1:2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
See All...; Joshua 1:8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): God’s word is very important to Him (Psalm 138:2I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
See All...). As a child, Timothy knew the Holy Scriptures. God wants you as a child to learn them too. When? Read Deuteronomy 11:19And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
See All... to find the answer. - (For everyone): How often do you read your Bible in the morning and meditate upon it throughout the day? How often do you go to sleep at night with the words of God in your mind?
- What are some benefits that you could enjoy by meditating upon the words of God? How could this help you draw closer to the Lord?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to give you verses upon which to meditate.
- Ask the Lord to help you to be faithful reading His word.
