Styles of Teaching

Ezra

  1. HIS CONVICTION
    1. Ezra’s Preparation (Ezra 7:10)
      1. He prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord.
      2. He prepared his heart to do the law of the Lord.
      3. He prepared his heart to teach the law of the Lord.
      4. Note the importance of this order. Before Ezra would ever teach the law of the Lord, he first had to be willing to study and obey it.
    2. Ezra’s Burden
      1. To seek a right way for the people (Ezra 8:21)
      2. Concerning the sin of the people (Ezra 9:1-7; Ezra 10:1)
  2. HIS CONCERN
    1. The Condition of the People
      1. They have mingled with the people of the land (Ezra 9:1-2).
      2. They were full of transgressions (Ezra 9:6-7).
    2. The Solution to the Problem
      1. Prayer (Ezra 10:1)
      2. Return to the word of God (Ezra 10:3)
  3. HIS LABOUR
    1. To Restore Reverence (Nehemiah 8:1-6)
      1. The people gathered together as one man (Nehemiah 8:1).
      2. Ezra read from morning until midday (Nehemiah 8:3).
      3. All the people were attentive (Nehemiah 8:3).
      4. Ezra stood upon a pulpit to read the scriptures (Nehemiah 8:4-5).
      5. The people responded (Nehemiah 8:5-6).
    2. To Increase Knowledge (Nehemiah 8:7-8)
      1. They read in the book in the law of God distinctly.
      2. They gave the sense.
      3. They caused the people to understand the reading.
    3. To Call for Obedience (Nehemiah 8:9-18)
      1. Their response to the law (Nehemiah 8:9-12)
        1. They wept (Nehemiah 8:9).
        2. They were to rejoice (Nehemiah 8:10-12).
      2. Their return to truth (Nehemiah 8:13-18)
        1. The feast discovered (Nehemiah 8:13-15)
        2. The feast observed (Nehemiah 8:16-18)
